The music lineup for The 2018 Grand Rivers Labor Day Weekend Arts & Crafts Festival was announced this week and includes JD Wilkes, The Elliot Howard Band, the Wheelhouse Rousters, and Jack Martin.

The Grand Rivers Arts & Crafts Festival runs September 1 – 3 in Little Lake Park.

9-11am the Elliot Howard Band

Labor Day Weekend Music Elliot Howard

The Elliot Howard Band is an acoustic/folk/rock/Americana group based out of Hopkinsville, KY. They write inspiring lyrical songs while also creating unique covers of crowd favorites. Two guitars, one fiddle, and one homemade kick drum.

JD Wilkes

J.D. Wilkes is an American visual artist, musician, author, filmmaker, and Kentucky Colonel. He has recorded harmonica for Merle Haggard, Sturgill Simpson, John Carter Cash, Hank Williams III and his own group Legendary Shack Shakers, whose music was featured on the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for HBO’s TrueBlood.

Wilkes is the author of Barn Dances and Jamborees Across Kentucky, an exploration of his state’s rich folk music heritage, and the novel The Vine That Ate the South, described by NPR as “Undeniably one of the smartest, most original Southern Gothic novels to come along in years.”

He graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor’s degree in 1995. He has created sideshow banners for traveling acts such as Marty Stuart, BR549 and the John Strong Sideshow. His comics and paintings have been published in Juxtapoz, ALARM Magazine, the Nashville Metromix and alongside the art of Robert Crumb in Mineshaft comics.

Wheelhouse R Labor Day Music

The Wheelhouse Rousters draw not only their moniker and musical style from the river and its industry but their ebb and flow of energy. Focusing on long-forgotten songs gathered by Mary Wheeler of Paducah, KY, the Rousters give a new twist to old tones.

Josh Coffee is most commonly known as a founding member of Bawn in the Mash, a ‘Genre-bending, progressive bluegrass band. Josh is currently working with a variety of great musicians and bands. In addition to Bawn in the Mash, he is regularly performing with the Wheelhouse Rousters.

Jack Martin

Martin and Good Company is an authentic bluegrass band playing music in the style of first generation bluegrass musicians. You’ll hear songs from the golden age of bluegrass played in the 1950’s, including the songs of Bill Monroe and His Bluegrass Boys, The Stanley Brothers, Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys, and many more.

 

 

 

 

The Grand Rivers Labor Day Weekend Arts & Crafts Festival features over 100 crafters, festival foods and music.  Admission is $2 per person at the walk-in gate or $5 per car (includes parking).
